Worth knowing

Chimney sweep logs do not sweep chimneys. They loosen some creosote - which then falls where a brush and vacuum still have to collect it.

Why Schaumburg Homeowners Choose DuraFlex Chimney Cleaning

We provide independent DuraFlex chimney cleaning service in Schaumburg for stainless steel liner systems across ranch homes, split-levels, and two-story tract builds from the 1960s through the 2000s. Our technicians work directly with DuraFlex SW smooth-wall liners, DuraFlex Pro insulated flex, and rigid-to-flex transition assemblies every week, so we know exactly where these systems fail and how to clean them without damaging the liner. We’re an independent DuraFlex service provider, not an authorized dealer or warranty affiliate, which means we call repairs honestly and use OEM-compatible hardware where it matters.

Call (844) 660-6510

Schaumburg’s housing stock tilts heavily toward prefabricated metal fireboxes and chase-enclosed flues rather than full masonry stacks. That means most DuraFlex liners here were retrofitted into existing chimneys or installed during original construction decades ago, and they’ve lived through repeated freeze-thaw cycles that test every seam, gasket, and top-plate seal. If your DuraFlex liner hasn’t been inspected in a few years, call (844) 660-6510 for a straight assessment.

Why Trust Duke Chimney Sweep for Your DuraFlex Chimney Cleaning?

DuraFlex liners are not all the same animal. A smooth-wall SW liner behaves differently under a brush than a corrugated flex section, and an insulated DuraFlex Pro needs a gentler hand than a rigid clay flue. We’ve cleaned and inspected hundreds of these systems across Schaumburg’s older ranch and split-level neighborhoods, which means we can spot a kinked offset or a loose clamp joint before it becomes a draft-killing soot trap. Our crews are trained on DuraFlex-specific failure points: seam packing, gasket degradation at the top plate, and corrosion patterns on lighter-gauge liner walls where acidic flue condensate sits in an uninsulated run.

Rob Szymanowski, our owner, grew up in Wheeling and spent enough winters near the Chevy Chase Country Club area to learn exactly what a poorly maintained chimney does to a house. He came up through the HVAC and building systems program at Harper College in Palatine, then worked chimneys and dryer vents across Cook and Lake counties before founding Duke Chimney Sweep. As he puts it: “Tell me what you’re seeing, and I’ll tell you what it actually means.” That’s the standard we hold on every DuraFlex inspection in Schaumburg – explain what we found, show you the camera footage, and never invent a problem that isn’t there.

We’re an independent service provider. No manufacturer authorization, no warranty endorsement, no affiliation. What that buys you is an honest read on whether your DuraFlex liner can be cleaned and repaired or has reached the end of its usable life.

Common DuraFlex Chimney Cleaning Problems We Fix in Schaumburg

  • Glazed creosote packing on DuraFlex Pro insulated liners. The insulated double-wall design keeps flue gases hotter, which is great for draft but also bakes creosote into a hard, shiny glaze when wood burns at low temperatures. This glaze doesn’t come off with a standard wire brush. We use rotary whip heads and chemical treatments rated for stainless liners, then vacuum the debris out clean. In Schaumburg’s long heating season, this is the most common call we get from late January through March.
  • Loose clamp joints where flex sections meet rigid adapters. DuraFlex systems connect flex to rigid liner sections with band clamps, and those clamps work loose over years of thermal expansion and contraction. When the joint opens even slightly, creosote and soot pack into the seam and choke the draft. We re-secure the clamp, sweep the full run, and verify the connection with a camera pass. This is a repair, not just a cleaning, and it’s one that generic chimney sweeps often miss because they never look inside the joint.
  • Rusted or pitted liner walls on uninsulated DuraFlex SW. When flue gases cool too quickly in an uninsulated liner – common on exterior chimneys in Schaumburg’s older 1960s ranch homes – acidic condensate forms and eats at the stainless. We see pitting that starts small and slowly expands until the liner wall gets thin. Our camera inspection maps the damage so you can see exactly what we’re seeing, and we’ll tell you whether it’s cleanable or needs section replacement.
  • Cracked top-plate gaskets and cap seal failure. The DuraFlex top plate seals the liner to the chimney crown, and the gasket underneath it dries out and cracks after enough sun, rain, and freeze-thaw cycling. Water gets past the seal and tracks down the outside of the liner, rusting the metal and soaking the surrounding masonry. We replace the gasket, re-seal the plate, and often upgrade the cap to a newer model with better spark-arrest screen retention.
  • Crushed or kinked flex at the smoke-chamber offset. This one shows up in Schaumburg tract homes where a previous installer forced the flex liner through a tight smoke-chamber transition. The liner kinks, creates a soot trap, and restricts airflow. Sometimes we can work the kink out; sometimes the liner is too far gone and we recommend replacing that section. Either way, we show you the camera footage before touching anything.

DuraFlex Parts & Our Repair-vs-Replace Approach

We stock genuine DuraFlex-compatible clamps, top plates, caps, and adapter hardware so we can complete most like-for-like repairs in a single visit. For gaskets, fasteners, and sealants, we use quality aftermarket parts where they perform equal to or better than OEM – and we’ll tell you which is which. There’s no mystery part bill at the end of the job.

The honest repair-vs-replace line is this: if a DuraFlex liner is corroded through, crushed past its usable cross-section, or has multiple failed joints that keep reopening, patching it is throwing money at a failing system. We’ll tell you straight when replacement is the smarter call, and we won’t push a new liner when a section repair or reseal will give you years of safe use. That’s the difference between a company that works on DuraFlex systems and one that just sweeps chimneys.

If you’re not sure which side of the line your liner falls on, call (844) 660-6510 and we’ll camera it and show you.

Our DuraFlex Service Process – Step by Step

  1. 1
Diagnosis. We start every DuraFlex service with a visual inspection of the cap, top plate, and accessible liner sections. For anything more than a routine sweep, we run a Level 2 camera inspection through the full liner run so we can see seam condition, joint tightness, and any corrosion or kinking that’s invisible from the firebox or roof.
  2. 2
Repair or clean. Depending on what we find, we either proceed with a straightforward sweep – using stainless-rated brushes, rotary heads where needed, and HEPA vacuuming at the firebox – or we address the mechanical issues first: re-securing loose clamps, replacing a cracked top-plate gasket, or swapping a failed cap. We stock the common DuraFlex hardware in the truck for most Schaumburg calls.
  3. 3
Test and document. After the work, we retest draft and airflow and run a final camera pass so you can see the liner clean and the joints tight. If we found corrosion or damage that needs monitoring, we’ll note it in the report so next year’s inspection has a baseline to compare against.
  4. 4
Stand behind the work. We don’t do manufacturer warranty claims, but our service workmanship stands on its own. If something’s not right after we leave, we come back and make it right. No runaround.
